We were originally going to have Johnny meet up with cartoon stars like Yogi Bear and Judy Jetson when he arrived in Hollywood. We even recorded Janet Waldo before deciding that we really needed to get some real live Hollywood people types in the show to make it sing. Literally. Jessica Biel and Alec Baldwin were such a “get.” I still don’t know how we got them to do it. And after Jon Bon Jovi passed, we went with the only person we thought could do an equally fine job: Don Knotts. I remember being completely awestruck by Don Knotts. I wanted to talk to him about everything, but all I could muster was, “Is this the first rap you’ve ever done?” His answer, “Yeah. I think it is.” That’s pretty much all I can remember from our conversation.
